Competition
Montreal, Canada 2003
This competition entry for the new Cultural and Administrative Complex in Montreal included three major components: a government administrative center, a symphony hall, and a conservatory. These elements were arranged to exploit advantageous adjacencies, create animated public spaces, preserve historic context, and to foster appropriate connections to the existing urban fabric. A base structure holds the urban street edge and contains pedestrian friendly program elements such as lobbies and retail. Atop this base, a series of courtyards are pathways are connected to the streets below with stairs and ramps. Three jewel-like objects placed above this base layer contain the primary program elements.
